SEO Tools

There are numerous tools used to understand and thus improve the rankings of sites on the Search Engines today, many being free.

A few are listed below that you may find useful or of interest. They&#re tools that we use anyway for sites which show an interest in their SEO rankings. Please feel free to talk to us if you want to find out more.

Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools

A must have for website statistics!

If you're serious about attracting search engine traffic, you'll want to sign up for a Google Webmaster Tools account. Google's Webmaster Tools (GWT) is free software that helps you understand what's going on with your website.

It's a partner to Google Analytics (GA) but more focused on the technical side of your website: it's less concerned with marketing or business. So, for example, if Google wants to send you a message about your site, it will make contact via your GWT account.

These are tools which IFA Web Pro use on a daily basis, for our own site and any sites that have requested extra support with SEO. We can set up GA and GWT accounts for you and closely monitor your site.

SEMrush

SEMrush has long been one of the best SEO tools. This service will quickly train you to adapt to a constatntly changing online world. To keep current with changing algorithms and SEO trends, the company consistently improves its process to help you make your personal or business website more visible, in both organic and paid search results.

One of the most useful features of SEMrush is its ability to tell you what other major web properties are trying to rank for your keywords. After you drop your URL in the search box and click the button, you'll be inundated with useful insights about your organic and AdWords competitors. Armed with this information, you can analyze their strategies to see what's working for them, or even approach some of the big spenders in your niche and pitch a display ad campaign. SEMrush gives you all the essential keyword tools you need to find and evaluate pay-per-click advertising competition.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

The right tools can make the SEO audit of a website so much easier. One such tool is the Screaming Frog SEO Spider. It can be used to review a website and identify flaws which can hurt a website's performance in search results.

The Screaming Frog SEO Spider is a small desktop application you can install locally on your PC, Mac or Linux machine. It crawls a websites' links, images, CSS, etc from an SEO perspective. It basically tells you what a search spider would see when it crawls a website.

This information allows you to quickly analyse, audit and review a site from an onsite SEO perspective. It can save you a great deal of work, because manually analyzing each page of a big website can be very time consuming.

Keyword Cloud Tool

The Keyword Cloud is a visual representation of keywords used on a website. Keywords having higher density are showed in a larger fonts. At a glance you will able to see where your most important keywords are

See what words your page is "Sending" to the search engines.

Indexed Page Checking Tool

Want to know which pages from your website have been indexed?

This tool will investigate all the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta Vista, and AlltheWeb) when you enter your chosen URL you will receive the total link count for each one.

Keyword Density Tool

The keyword density tool is useful for helping website developers and their clients achieve their optimum keyword density for a set of key terms.

Why is it important?

Keyword density is important because search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme, and to determine which terms the site is relevant to. The perfect keyword density will help achieve higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for “keyword spamming”).

This tool gives you some idea of how frequently a word is used in a page, too much isn't good but there are always exceptions

Code to Text Ratio Tool

A most useful tool as it will give you some idea of just how much "noise" the Engines's spiders have to get through before they can get to your content.

The Code to Text Ratio represents the percentage of actual text in a web page. This content ratio tool extracts the text from paragraphs and the anchor text from HTML code and calculates the content ratio based on this information.

Why is it important?

The code to text ratio of a page is used by search engines and spiders to calculate the relevancy of a web page. A higher code to text ratio gives you a better chance of getting a good page ranking for your page.
